Infamous internet speed / speedtest.net thread - Jarnokai - 2019-10-29

All of us have seen this before: Go to speedtest.net, do the test and embed your result for bragging rights.

To make this less spam and more conversational though, please tell us about your ISP and your experience with it, are you running mobile, DSL, cable, fiber? Also what speeds are you actually paying for? Previous ISPs, speeds, experiences?

Our apartment has fiber-to-cable, our subscription is 100/10 for 10?/month:

My mobile is a 4G LTE 100Mbps unlimited data plan for 18?/month:

This is the speed at my desk right now, obviously better/worse signal depending on where you are, better outside etc.

I always found it funny how my phone has 3x the upload speed of my computer. Would have extremely affordable 200, 400 and 1000 Mbps connections available as well but they would require taking a 2 year contract and I have not been willing to do that yet.

I still urge to get that gigabit internet for 40? a month :(

RE: Infamous internet speed / speedtest.net thread - Nutter - 2019-10-30

These are my speeds somewhere in London where I live around 1 mile away from the exchange. I pay around ?20 (~ 23?) for 40/10 which is fibre connection up to the cabinet on our street. The rest is copper cable.

Eu sou do Brasil, e fa?a o download de 200mb e fa?a o upload de 40 mb e receba uma prova, o arm?rio fica em outra cidade a mais de 300km

RE: Infamous internet speed / speedtest.net thread - Markhoss - 2019-11-30

Ok so this is my result I've previously lived in the UK we first had the classic broadband

connection before moving to fibre and we've never moved since, although there were problems

with the browser sometimes .etc most of the time it was okay over there the connection there was a little worse especially for upload which is also important but at least the ping was a little lower unlike here.:-(

Now we moved back to the czech republic and it's good, using fibre and never really had problems

or network outages so far. Surprisingly right now the upload is really good.:-O However the ping

is a little too high in my opinion but otherwise I am happy but I think the download should definitely be over a 100Mbps at least, below that nowadays ain't anything special.

Oh and here is the result.:-)

Believe it or not, this is over cable. I pay way too much for this, but unfortunately, I got no other options because ISPs are essentially "legal" monopolies here in America. There is fiber all around my area but for some odd reason, the local telecom here won't put forth the money and effort make the fiber go directly to the home rather than to the DSLAM cabinet. I speculate they're just stalling upgrade efforts to see how long they can get away with receiving free government grant money.

RE: Infamous internet speed / speedtest.net thread - gzxmx94 - 2020-01-13

I was more interested in the speeds across the globe, because what's the use of a 1gbit package if you just have 10mbps to your neighbors one state or?country over? Or to Neflix or YouTube for that matter.. (T-Mobile fiasco)

Speedtest locations based on?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Internet_exchange_points_by_size

If you want to do it too, code:

Code:
[table=100]

[tr][td]xx, yy (zz)[/td][td][img][/img][/td][/tr]

[tr][td]xx, yy (zz)[/td][td][img][/img][/td][/tr]

[tr][td]xx, yy (zz)[/td][td][img][/img][/td][/tr]

[tr][td]xx, yy (zz)[/td][td][img][/img][/td][/tr]

[tr][td]xx, yy (zz)[/td][td][img][/img][/td][/tr]

[tr][td]xx, yy (zz)[/td][td][img][/img][/td][/tr]

[/table]

I ran multiple (2-4) speedtests per location (different providers) and picked the best (except Seoul and Navi Mumbai, only have 1 speedtest provider each).

There were plenty of very slow test results (some even 0.5 mbps upload, others 1 mbps download, e.g. Nigeria,?Australia, Brasil?and a few others).

Internet package: 1000/1000, Price: ?47,50/mo, connection type: Fiber to the Home (FttH)

-snip-

Those speeds to North America seem pretty abysmal compared to places like brazil and russia! I understand there is an ocean in between, but not like that doesn't apply to brazil. Was very much expecting a better connection to America. Interesting data,

Alot of people use VPN's (causing different ISP to show) and people might not use the closest host so asked just to be safe ;)
